January 2013: Clinician and TV Host Julie Goodnight announces her 2013 Clinic Tour Schedule—with opportunities to meet her in person and ask your horsemanship questions. In 2013, Goodnight will travel to California, New Jersey, Colorado (multiple appearances), Washington, Minnesota, Virginia, Massachusetts, Wisconsin and Ohio.
Each of Goodnight’s clinic tour stops provides an opportunity for horse owners to ride with Goodnight. Audiences are also invited to watch and learn in a friendly environment for a nominal cost.
Clinics are fun and active, with a focus on bridging natural horsemanship techniques with the principles of classical riding. Goodnight's teachings are focused on finding success and improvement for each and every horse and rider by developing a deeper understanding of the horse and riding skills that lead to a balanced and rhythmic rider and a light and responsive horse.
Expect to work together in the arena all day, doing both ground work and mounted work, with a focus on refining riding skills and developing a better relationship with your horse. All ability levels are welcome as long as the rider has basic control at the walk and trot. Each rider works at his/her own pace without pressure to go outside your or your horse’s comfort zone.
Click here to register to ride or purchase spectator tickets now: http://juliegoodnight.com/clinics. You may also call 800-225-8827, M-F, 9-5 MST for friendly help.
What Julie Goodnight's Clinic Attendees Say:
"I am putting all the things I learned at the clinic to use, most importantly, my seat and balance in the saddle. What a difference it makes in my ride, especially at the canter where I am doing so much better. My horse is traveling better since I am more in balance sitting in the middle of the saddle on my seatbones and relaxed. My confidence has also improved. Looking forward to next year!"
"I learned so much even being just a spectator. Julie addresses all issues to the riders as well as her audience and gives so freely of her advice to everyone. She wants to help everyone...She is really an amazing person and explains everything so well. She is very patient, attentive, and ever so gracious with her time."
"I thoroughly enjoyed the clinic. I especially appreciate Julie's ability to meet each rider at his or her experience level, her willingness to allow proper application of alternate methods, and her dedication to producing more knowledgeable riders...As any good instructor, she focuses on reinforcing each participant for what is being done correctly and asking for the specific changes which will improve his or her skills. Julie uses techniques which respond to the horse's earliest attempts to offer the correct response thereby keeping the horse within a frame of mind in which it is able to learn and process information. This reduces stress, avoids panic and explosive aversion, and encourages handling techniques that are safe for all participants to practice at home or in a group setting...I wholeheartedly recommend her clinics to others."

Cox Cable RFD-TV and RURAL TV/FAMILYNET

Attention Cox Cable customers.

This is important!  If you wish to continue to have RFD-TV and/or FamilNet on your Cox channel lineup after Februrary 1st, now is the time to show your support for our family-oriented programming.

Unfortunately, some big urban-based media giants are trying to pressure certain cable companies to remove independent channels, such as ours, off that system, so that they can then takeover that channel space to expand their own interests.  As a complete surprise and with really no notice to us whatsoever, this is happening at Cox right now.

At this time, I ask for your help to stop this from happening and that you register your support for RFD-TV and RURALTV on FamilyNet by doing the following.

First, immediately write an e-mail or letter to Cox asking them to keep RFD-TV and FamilyNet available to your home. Please send that request directly to me, Patrick@rfdtv.com, as I will then organize all requests and personally deliver them to the decision makers at Cox without delay.

Second, call your local Cox cable system and voice your concern about the possibility of losing RFD-TV or FamilyNet from your channel lineup.  Independent channels are at a huge disadvantage in these types of situations, unless our loyal audience comes to our defense quickly, and in a big way.

Folks, I need thousands of e-mails, letters, and calls, so that we can prove, once and for all, the value and importance of rural, family-oriented programming to Cox cable executives.

No one is more powerful than the American consumer, and no audience is more responsive than ours.

Please help us send the strongest possible message to Cox cable so there is no doubt and this battle is fought only once.

We all have better things to do.

On behalf of all the independent programmers and employees of RFD-TV and FamilyNet, we apologize for any inconvenience to you, and thank you in advance for your response and support.

Be sure to include your name, city, and state where located.

I will keep you informed on any developments.

EQUINE FEED OAT PROJECT AWARDS INAUGURAL OAT RESEARCH GRANT
Grant to Dr. Laurie Lawrence of the University of Kentucky

LOUISVILLE, KY - January 10, 2013 - The Equine Feed Oat Project (EFOP) today announced the recipient of its first equine oat research grant. Dr. Laurie Lawrence of the University of Kentucky will receive more than $122,000 in funding for a two-year research project beginning in February 2013. The EFOP is an initiative of the Prairie Oat Growers Association (POGA), a non -profit organization representing 15,000 Canadian Oat Farmers. Launched in 2010, the EFOP was created to conduct research and educate about the role of oats in equine nutrition. Since its formation in 1998, POGA has placed a high priority on funding research that has helped produce many new varieties of oats for both the human and equine markets.

"Healthy horses have been eating oats for hundreds of years because they are safe, natural and healthy. And we know how and why oats are good for people," said Bill Wilton, Chairman of POGA. "Dr. Lawrence's research will help us know more about why and how oats are good for horses."

POGA received matching funding for the grant from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture - Agriculture Development Fund (ADF). Each year ADF provides over $10 million in project funding to researchers in public and private research and development in order to create future growth opportunities in the provincial agriculture industry.

Laurie Lawrence, Ph.D., is a Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Kentucky (UK) and has more than 30 years experience in equine nutrition. She joined UK in 1992 and has since become one of the leading researchers and teachers in equine nutrition. She has authored numerous papers and studies and has been honored by the industry and her peers for her work including the American Society of Animal Science, the Equine Science Society and the University of Kentucky.
