Certified Horsemanship Association Offers Youth Ways to Be Involved with TEAM CHA; Announces Top Five in Horse Connections Reward Program

(March 2016) – The Certified Horsemanship Association offers a variety of ways for members to get involved. Through the youth membership, TEAM CHA, kids ages 15 years and younger can become involved with CHA. The membership only costs $15 and includes a quarterlyTEAM CHA newsletter, a membership card and sticker. In addition, great prizes are available for those who spend time with horses, regardless of horse ownership status.

The Horse Connection Reward Program offers prizes to those who become involved with horses, whether it is their horse or a horse owned by another person. Grooming a horse, riding in a lesson, cleaning stalls and/or tack, volunteering at a horsemanship facility, reading a non-fiction horse book, or watching a non-fiction horse video and going to an equine event all qualify for the rewards program. For those going to an event, events such as the county fair or a horse exposition, as well as horse shows or a parade count. Prizes are awarded based on the different award hour levels. TEAM CHA is proud to be a part of many week-long summer camps, and participation in these programs allows students the chance to take home information about horses from CHA. They can then work on this information all school year and receive credit when they return back to their equine summer camp the following summer.

TEAM CHA’s leaders in the Horse Connection Reward Program currently are Katelyn Livermore of Henderson, CO; Patricia Kackert of Menifee, CA; Rebecca Cornn of Corbin, KY; Briaanna Torrens of Woodbourne, NY; and Becca Millage of Maple Valley, WA.

In addition to TEAM CHA, members that are age 16 and older can qualify to become certified as an assistant instructor by attending a CHA clinic. Assistant instructors can teach in English and/or Western and are qualified to assist in a lesson or trail ride under the supervision of a certified instructor. One must be 18 years or older to become a CHA Certified Instructor. For more information on CHA Certification, visit http://cha-ahse.org/store/pages/30/Certifications.html.

Certified Horsemanship Association Offers Riding Instructor and Equine Facility Manager Certification Clinics Throughout the U.S. and Canada

(March 2016) – Make your plans now to become a certified riding instructor/barn manager like you've always wanted or to become certified at a higher level. Auditing is also available. The Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) has many Certification Clinics scheduled throughout the U.S. and Canada in 2016. CHA has you covered if you want to be a Standard Instructor in English and/or Western disciplines or an Equine Facility Manager, Overnight Trail Guide, Day Ride Trail Guide, Combined Instructor/Trail Guide, Instructor of Riders with Disabilities, Seasonal Equestrian Staff, Driving Instructor, Recreational or Commercial Driver, or a Vaulting Coach. As the largest equine professional certifying organization in North America, CHA has been in existence for almost 50 years and has certified more than 25,000 instructors and equine facility managers.

Those seeking certification will go through a multi-day intensive certification clinic where you must pass written tests, be evaluated by two CHA Clinic Instructors (and other clinic attendees), and attend in-depth workshops on risk management, ethics, teaching techniques and more. CHA instructors are tested on five important areas: safety, horsemanship knowledge and ability, teaching techniques, group control, and professionalism. Clinic attendees receive all educational manuals and materials, CHA membership, and certification fees as part of the clinic fee. Horses, tack and arena equipment are provided by the host sites.  If you are interested in hosting a CHA clinic to raise money for your equine facility, please contact us at office@CHA-ahse.org and put Host a Clinic in the subject line.

All Discipline Standard English/Western Clinics are already on the calendar for 23 states with more getting added each day: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming. In Canada, clinics are scheduled in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Nova Scotia. To see the clinic schedule, please visit http://www.CHAinstructors.com/clinics.

Equine Facility Managers have clinics they can attend at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR; at Houghton College in Houghton, NY; at Victory Therapy Center in Roanoke, TX; and at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, WY. For those who offer summer programs, now is a perfect time for staff to become professionally certified before the summer rush starts.

Instructors who receive a certification become more valuable to their employer and their students. The benefits for certification include:

§  Insurance discounts

§  Marketing opportunities through CHA

§  Employment options

§  The ability to network at professional events

§  The chance to attend continuing educational events

§  Shows customers and potential customers that you are a professional committed to meeting high professional standards

§  Shows customers that you know how to teach up to the level you are certified at in a safe, fun, and effective manner
