REDMOND, UT, November 2, 2010– Julie Goodnight (Host of Horse Master on RFD-TV) recommends the all-natural Redmond Rock™ salt lick and Redmond Daily Red™ top dressing to help horses get the salt and minerals they need to stay healthy and to keep drinking water in any season or temperature. New to the equine market, but well established with Real Salt™ for table use, Redmond Minerals, Inc. offers all-natural sea salt and minerals.

“Because I’ve used Redmond’s Real Salt™ in my kitchen for years, I was thrilled to discover that the same trace mineral sea salt is now available for horses—both in a granulated top-dress   and a natural rock for licking,” Goodnight says. “Both products are harvested from an underground source in southern Utah—a huge deposit of salt left there from the evaporation of an ancient and pristine sea. Now, all of my horses have free-choice access to a Redmond Rock salt lick. Its naturally irregular shape is much more appealing than a chemically processed and hardened brick. When my horses are on the road, I prefer to use Daily Red, a granulated form added to the feed, that way, I insure my horses are getting the right balance of salt. With the added stress of traveling, I feel it is critical to my horse’s hydration and over-all vitality, as well as insuring a rapid recovery from strenuous exercise.”

Founded in 1959, Redmond Minerals, Inc., is a national leader in natural salt and minerals. Now, the company is thrilled to introduce its natural product to the equine world and to work with Goodnight to spread the word about natural salt benefits.

“The benefits of the natural minerals in Redmond Rock are tremendous,” says Mike Mumford, Redmond Equine sales manager and endurance rider. “Our customers tell us Redmond Rock has helped prevent colic in their horses while improving their appetites. Redmond Rock effectively replenishes minerals and electrolytes the horse has lost. By feeding him Redmond Rock free choice, you are allowing your horse to self manage the amount of salt and trace minerals he needs. He’ll go back to the rock as often as necessary.”

Need more reasons to provide salt? Goodnight says that “salt is a necessary and vital ingredient in a horse’s diet; it’s critical for strong bones, high energy levels and strong muscles. Salt intake is related to good hydration since a horse will increase his water intake when his salt intake increases, and good hydration is vital to good health,” she says. “The important balance of salt, trace minerals and water is critical to good health and good performance. The Redmond salt is unprocessed and pure-- no chemicals added and from a time before modern toxins polluted the sea. Since a horse’s senses are much keener than ours, it makes sense to me that an all-natural product will be more appealing and therefore lead to greater consumption and better hydration.”

NEW Products:
Redmond Rock™
Mined 300 feet below the earth’s surface from an ancient mineral deposit in central Utah, Redmond Rock is a natural sea salt containing more than 60 trace minerals. In comparison to other pressed mineral blocks available on the market, Redmond Rock offers a full array of minerals with a natural shape and taste that horses love. Redmond Rock is an excellent source of essential minerals and sea salt–vital components missing from many natural forages.

Daily Red™
Redmond Daily Red is a granular form of our Redmond Rock designed for horses that prefer receiving their supplements in their daily feed ration. Daily Red provides all the natural trace minerals and electrolytes found in Redmond Rock and is perfect for your horse's diet during periods of hard work or activity when good hydration is critical. Some horses like their mineral licks too much and will chew or bite free choice mineral salt. Daily Red brand natural minerals provide a perfect amount and totally natural blend of essential trace minerals and electrolytes your horse needs to live a more healthy, balanced life just as nature intended. Just like Redmond Rock, Daily Red is a natural mineral sea salt harvested from deep within the earth in Southern Utah. Daily Red contains more than 60 beneficial trace minerals.

Julie Goodnight Tips of the Month for November & December

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Julie Goodnight Tips of the Month for November & December

PONCHA SPRINGS, Colo. November/December 2010— Have you ever had an ad drop out at the last moment—or a space that didn’t sell before printing deadline? Julie Goodnight—known for her “classic skills for a natural ride” clinics, her clear communication in print, and her RFD-TV show, Horse Master with Julie Goodnight—provides a tip each month for use when you need just a little more content. Tips may be edited for style, length and content. Content is provided free of charge with attribution. Here are two new tips to help you when you’re in a layout crunch . . .

Winter Dehydration
Like people, horses will sometimes not drink adequately in very cold weather, which can lead to a chronic state of dehydration and exacerbate other more serious conditions like colic and illness. Horses should be monitored when possible for how much water they are consuming on a daily basis (automatic waterers and group pens make this difficult, if not impossible). To make sure your horses are drinking adequately in cold weather, you can add a handful of loose salt to their grain. This is a good way to stimulate thirst and to force the intake of salt. --Julie Goodnight

Defining the Half-halt
This is a term that is frequently bandied about but seldom defined. Although the term is used more frequently in English lessons, it is a technique that is used in all styles of riding. A half-halt is a momentary application of all three primary natural aids-- the seat, legs and hands, the purpose of which is to rebalance the horse and rock his weight back onto his haunches a little more. A horse naturally carries about 55% of his weight on his forehand, yet his power and athleticism comes from his hindquarters. By momentarily applying all the aids: engaging your seat bones, putting leg on the horse and at the same time checking back with the reins, the horse will rebalance himself and shift his weight back on his haunches. A half-halt might be executed to slow a horse down, shorten or lengthen his stride, collect him or prepare him for a more difficult maneuver like a flying lead change. --Julie Goodnight

In 2009, Goodnight and her crew (producer Heidi Nyland of The Whole Picture, LLC, and videographer and editor Steve Schott of 12Basket Productions, to name a few) taped 6 episodes at the same facility and were thrilled with the amenities and the scenic views.

Goodnight says, "I was totally impressed with the facility—seems like every detail was considered and it is well-designed and well-crafted. What a great asset for your community! Not only will numerous people enjoy the events that happen there, but seeing all the local riders in the community arena each evening was really heart-warming. It was obvious that they appreciated having a nice place to ride and also being able to visit with neighbors. The staff at the equestrian center was so good to us and obviously took great pride in the facility. Everyone made us feel welcomed and it left us with a very good feeling about the folks in Queen Creek."

Clips of the show will be posted on Goodnight’s Youtube.com channel as they are prepared then will air on television in their entirety. Visit http://www.youtube.com/juliegoodnight to see clips of the show and keep up with Goodnight’s travels on Facebook and Twitter.

NARHA National Conference a Premier Event in EAAT

Denver—The NARHA National Conference is a premier event in the equine-assisted activities and therapies (EAAT) industry. The 2010 conference, November 3-6 in Denver, Colorado, features an impressive array of educational sessions presented by industry experts. The Horse Expo on Saturday and the Friday keynote luncheon have been perennial highlights. This year, Julie Goodnight will present the opening session at the Horse Expo on avoiding and correcting burnout in your horses. Julie is the star of the award-winning TV show “Horse Master.” Friday’s luncheon speaker is Bubba Gilliam, who played the memorable Lyle in Mel Brooks’ comedy Blazing Saddles.

Attendees to the conference will also enjoy the many opportunities to catch up with old friends at social receptions, such as the “ski lodge” themed exhibit hall, or the Getting to Know You reception, which boasts a Native American theme. The conference concludes with the NARHA Awards Banquet, where we celebrate and honor the equestrians, equines, instructors and volunteers who make a world of difference in EAAT.

The workshops, demonstrations and sessions will give you many “take-home” tips as you learn the benefits of therapeutic riding on the social skills of children with autism spectrum or leveraging the latest technology for EAAT. Learn how to design a themed obstacle course or how to create a camp program. An exciting session will be presented by Theresa Chase, a clinical nurse specialist at Craig Hospital in Denver, who will talk about the development of an in-patient EAAT pilot project for spinal cord injury patients.

Early bird registration for the conference ends September 6, so register early and save money to finish up some Christmas shopping at the silent auction or the NARHA merchandise booth. To register for the conference, visit www.narha.org <http://www.narha.org/>  and click on conference.

The equine performers who will be participating in the 2010 Pfizer Fantasia at Equine Affaire will be traveling to the event from New England and as far away as Florida, Colorado, Kentucky, and Texas, and will include breeds as diverse as Andalusians, Paso Finos, Icelandics, Arabians, Paints, Dutch Warmbloods, Friesians, Aztecas, and Quarter Horses.

What to expect. “The lineup of performers at this year’s Pfizer Fantasia will include several new performers and acts as well as a couple of familiar faces from past shows,” explained Eugenia Snyder, the President of Equine Affaire. “Our Fantasia production team has worked hard to develop a show that will have an entertaining blend of disciplines, variety in tempo and music, and a blend of dramatic and high-action performances. We are delighted to welcome back the incomparable Staci and Jerry Diaz who will be presenting two new acts at the show, the ever-popular Icelandic Performance Team, and Christine Drentwett who will perform a special garrocha pas de deux with Colorado-based reiner, Aaron Ralston. Liz Austin will make her debut appearance at the Pfizer Fantasia riding Oliver in a grand prix level musical freestyle, and trick riding gurus, Shane and Susie Karson will dazzle the audience with their death-defying riding skills. We have some very special driving and breed-related performances in production, several new surprise acts to introduce, and an opening to the show that will acknowledge Veteran’s Day and pay tribute to our armed forces.” The 2010 Pfizer Fantasia will highlight the brilliance, grace, and athleticism of horses and the special connections we share with them and be an evening of quality entertainment for horse enthusiasts of all ages.

to “Ride With The Best”

W. Springfield, MA, November 11–14, 2010
—Equine Affaire will return to the Eastern States Exposition in W. Springfield, MA, November 11th through the 14th and feature an educational program that will include more than 200 different clinics, seminars, and demonstrations on a broad range of equine disciplines and horse-related topics conducted by many of the nation’s foremost coaches, competitors, horse trainers, and equine management experts. While training clinics presented at Equine Affaire will be conducted to educate horse enthusiasts who will be watching from their seats in the stands, these clinics also offer unique opportunities for selected riders and horses to receive individual instruction and training from nationally-recognized industry professionals to whom access may not otherwise be available.

Most of the clinicians who will be featured at the 2010 Equine Affaire will be participating in the “Ride With The Best” program and accepting horses and riders for their clinic sessions. While some are seeking riders and horses with specific skills or problems, others are seeking any riders interested in improving their relationships with their horses. The 2010 Equine Affaire will offer such a wide range of learning opportunities—and you and your horse may be the ideal participants for one or more sessions.

Presenters who will be conducting clinics on “general” horsemanship and horse training topics  include Chris Cox, Monty Roberts, Stacy Westfall, and Julie Goodnight. Clinicians offering sessions within the English disciplines are Jane Savoie and Betsy Steiner (dressage), Daniel Stewart (equestrian sports psychology over fences and on the flat), and Muffy Seaton (driving). The western disciplines will be well-represented by Marlene McRae (barrel racing & pole bending), Stacy Westfall (reining), Aaron Ralston (cutting and trail competition), and Robin Gollehon (western pleasure and yearling lunging).  Brenda Imus and Steve Edwards will offer clinics of special interest to owners and riders of easy-gaited horses and mules.

The modest fees for clinics in Equine Affaire’s “Ride With The Best” program range from $65–$100 and include clinic participation, event admission, and stabling. Clinicians will select the participants for their sessions from written applications and videos submitted to Equine Affaire. Clinic details and an application are available at www.equineaffaire.com. Interested riders may also request a “Ride With The Best” information packet by contacting Paula Woodward at pwoodward@equineaffaire.com or by calling (740) 845-0085 ext. 109. Whether you’re trying to improve your dressage test score, lower your barrel racing run time, fine tune your reining patterns, or have your horse trained by one of the top horse trainers in the nation, you won’t want to miss the opportunity to participate in Equine Affaire’s “Ride With The Best” program.   Contact Equine Affaire now; the clinic application deadline is September 3rd!

Talented Horse & Rider Teams to Compete for $5500
at Equine Affaire’s Versatile Horse & Rider Competition

W. SPRINGFIELD, MA, November 12–14, 2010—Now in its fourth year, Equine Affaire’s signature horsemanship event, the Versatile Horse & Rider Competition, will take place November 12th through the 14th at the Eastern States Exposition in W. Springfield, MA. Thirty pre-selected horse and rider teams will compete for the title of “Versatile Horse & Rider Competition Champion” and $5500 in cash and other prizes in this timed and judged race through an obstacle course designed to test communication between horse and rider and the horsemanship skills and athleticism of each team. Over the past few years the Versatile Horse & Rider Competition has quickly become one of the most popular features of Equine Affaire. Throughout both the qualifying rounds and finals of the competition, crowds cheer on their favorite contestants as they negotiate the challenging obstacle course at top speeds and are pushed out of their “comfort zones.”

The 2010 Versatile Horse & Rider Competition will be conducted within the 95’ x 200’ horse show arena in the Eastern States Exposition coliseum and will have a Pony Express theme. As in the past, the course will feature a combination of some traditional as well as “not-so-traditional” trail obstacles and riding challenges such as jumping over or through components, backing through a pattern, pole bending and/or roll backs, various gymkhana games, working gates, and riding over or through difficult/spooky objects. Aaron Ralston of Silt, CO, will serve as the judge for this year’s competition, and Julie Goodnight of Salida, CO, will provide enlightening and entertaining commentary for the audience.

During the Versatile Horse & Rider Competition, the performance of each horse and rider team will be judged on each obstacle for both quality of horsemanship and timing. For each obstacle, the judge will award performance points on a scale of 1 to 5 based on the rider’s horsemanship, the horse’s attitude, and the team’s overall performance. Horses and riders will be required to complete each obstacle within 30 seconds in order to receive points. If an obstacle is not completed within the given timeframe, the contestant will be flagged and must move on to the next obstacle. Times will be translated into points, and the team with the highest overall point score will be the 2010 Versatile Horse & Rider Competition Champion.

A maximum of 30 horse/rider teams will be selected to participate in the race. Qualifying rounds will be conducted on Friday and Saturday afternoons, and the top 10 horse and rider teams in these rounds will advance to the Versatile Horse & Rider Competition Finals on Sunday morning. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top four contestants with the first place team receiving $2,500 and the title of Versatile Horse & Rider Competition Champion and the second, third, and fourth place teams receiving $1,750, $1000, and $250 respectively. Additional prizes will be announced prior to the event, and all prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the Finals on Sunday morning.

Equine Affaire’s Versatile Horse & Rider Competition will be open to all riders age 18 years and older and horses of all breeds and disciplines. All horse and rider teams will compete against each other; there will be no “divisions” based on gender or age. The entry fee for each horse/rider team is $350 and includes stabling on Thursday through Saturday nights and a four-day ticket to Equine Affaire for the rider. Individual riders may compete with more than one horse in the race, but they must submit a separate application, video, and fee for each horse they wish to enter. Applications and support materials will be accepted by Equine Affaire through September 3rd; they will be reviewed by the management of Equine Affaire, which will select the final contestants for the competition and notify contestants by October 1st. To obtain all of the details on the competition and an entry form, consult www.equineaffaire.com or contact Paula Woodward at pwoodward@equineaffaire.com or by calling (740) 845-0085 ext. 109.
