Troxel Chairman to Speak at Helmet Safety Symposium

San Diego, CA – January 5, 2011 –Troxel LLC, the worldwide leader in ASTM/SEI-certified equestrian helmets, announced today that its chairman Dr. Richard Timms will be speaking at the Helmet Safety Symposium held by invitation-only this Saturday, January 8, 2011 in Wellington, Florida.

The Helmet Safety Symposium, organized by Riders4Helmets and SUCCEED®, will bring together representatives from the equestrian world to discuss the importance of wearing helmets, rider safety, helmet designs, rules and more. “The timing of the riders4helmets Helmet Safety Symposium could not be better, with the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) due to vote on proposed helmet rule changes at the USEF Annual Convention Jan. 13-17th in Louisville, Kentucky,” said Lyndsey White, co-founder of the Riders4Helmets campaign.

The symposium will include a series of panel discussions with leading equestrians, representatives from the helmet safety testing authorities, helmet manufacturers, equestrian organizations, and two of the country’s leading neurosurgeons: Dr. Allen Sills MD and Dr Jamshid Ghajar MD PhD.

Dr. Timms will present on topics including: equestrian helmets in the perspective of injury prevention products and public health, and the present limits and focus of the ASTM equestrian standard.

Dr. Timms' background as a specialist in critical care and as a research professor at The Scripps Institute, provides the foundation for Troxel's advanced research and innovative products. Dr. Timms has served on the board of the National Brain Injury Association, and to the State of California Department of Public Health on injury monitoring and prevention efforts. Dr. Timms is a member of the ASTM committee on head protection and Troxel's research and development efforts.

“I am looking forward to this important discussion and the growing awareness of head protection by USEF and FEI,” said Dr. Timms. “USEF’s and FEI’s positions supply leadership examples to the remainder of the equestrian world. The history and evolving knowledge related to head injury and head protection supports our timely attention to the issue.”

"We are incredibly grateful to Troxel for their sponsorship of the Riders4Helmets helmet safety symposium. Without the support of the symposium sponsors, this important event would not be able to occur. I look forward to the presentation by Dr. Timms at the symposium," said event organizer Lyndsey White.

About Riders4Helmets
Riders4Helmets was founded in early 2010 after Olympic dressage rider Courtney King Dye was seriously injured in a riding accident. King Dye, who remained in a coma for a month following her accident, was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and is currently undergoing rehabilitation. Jeri Bryant donated her helmet campaign t-shirts (featuring the slogan “Strap One On –Everyone’s Doing it”) to SUCCEED’s eBay store to raise funds for King Dye, and a partnership was formed, resulting in the Riders4Helmets campaign.

About SUCCEED
SUCCEED Digestive Conditioning Program is an official product sponsor of USEF, USDF and USEA. It is produced and distributed exclusively by Freedom Health, LLC, of Aurora, Ohio. The company is focused on finding, perfecting and delivering superior, innovative products that address real and significant health-related issues for animals and the people who care for them.
