LOUISVILLE, Ky. August 1, 2013 – The Equine Feed Oat Project (EFOP) has selected Marlene Bourgeois of Sedalia, Colorado,  the winner of free oats for a year. The contest received more than 900 subscribers with Bourgeois selected at random. The contest was conducted in partnership with Julie Goodnight of Horse Master on RFD-TV, which EFOP sponsors.

“Being selected to receive free oats for a year was a wonderful surprise,” said Bourgeois. “I have been feeding oats to horses for more than 40 years and in my opinion oats are the safest cereal grain. My horses have all led very healthy lives and I personally believe their feed plays a part in that.”

Bourgeois, who has three horses, will receive a bag of oats once a month for a year from her local feed store, Rampart Feed and Pet in Castle Rock, Colorado provided by the EFOP. Bourgeois owns a 10-year-old Missouri Foxtrotter named Cassey’s Custom Cruiser, a 17-year-old Missouri Foxtrotter Gelding named Midnight Ebony Prince and a 23-year-old Appaloosa Mare named Cricket.

“Our sponsorship of Horse Master with Julie Goodnight has helped us learn how many horse owners love feeding their horses oats because it is a natural, safe and healthy grain,” said Randy Strychar, EFOP Project Director.  “This was our opportunity to help one lucky horse owner continue to feed oats to their horses with the help of Julie Goodnight.”

The EFOP is an initiative of the Prairie Oat Growers Association (POGA), which represents 15,000 Canadian oat growers. EFOP began the sponsorship of Horse Master with Julie Goodnight in November of 2012. Dedicated horse owners like Marlene Bourgeois tune in weekly to RFD-TV for Horse Master, airing on Mondays and Saturdays.
